Wisconsin Electric Power Company operates as an electric, natural gas, and steam utility company in the United States. The company operates through two segments, Utility and Other. It engages in the generation, distribution, and sale of electricity to residential, commercial, industrial, and other customers in southeastern, east central, and northern Wisconsin, as well as in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The company generates electricity from coal, natural gas and oil, wind, hydro, and biomass. It also produces, distributes, and sells steam for processing, space heating, domestic hot water, and humidification customers in metropolitan Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In addition, the company engages in the purchase, distribution, and sale of natural gas to retail customers, as well as transportation of customer-owned natural gas in southeastern, east central, and northern Wisconsin. As of December 31, 2017, it operated approximately 19,800 lines of overhead distribution lines and 24,600 miles of underground distribution cable, as well as 310 electric distribution substations and approximately 287,200 line transformers; a natural gas distribution system consisting of approximately 11,100 miles of distribution mains connected at 25 gate stations; and steam systems comprising 40 miles of high pressure and low pressure steam piping, approximately 4 miles of walkable tunnels, and other pressure regulating equipment. The company was founded in 1896 and is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Wisconsin Electric Power Company is a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, Inc.
